Welcome to the City of Light! Paris is divided into 20 administrative districts called arrondissements, arranged in a clockwise spiral starting from the city center. Each district has its own distinct personality, landmarks, and vibe.
1. The Historic Core (1st - 4th Arrondissements)
1st (Louvre): The regal heart of Paris, home to the Louvre Museum and Tuileries Garden. Perfect for high-end shopping and world-class art.
4th (Le Marais & Notre-Dame): Known for its medieval narrow streets, the Jewish Quarter, and the iconic Notre-Dame Cathedral on Île de la Cité.
2. The Intellectual & Monumental Left Bank (5th - 7th Arrondissements)
5th (Latin Quarter): The student hub, home to the Sorbonne University and the Panthéon. Expect winding alleys and historic bookstores.
7th (Eiffel Tower): Dominated by the Iron Lady. This district features wide boulevards, the Musée d'Orsay, and Les Invalides.
3. The Bohemian & Trendy Right Bank (10th, 11th, & 18th)
10th (Canal Saint-Martin): A hip area popular with locals for waterside picnics and trendy cafes.
18th (Montmartre): The hilltop village famous for the Sacré-Cœur Basilica, artists at Place du Tertre, and the Moulin Rouge.
Getting Around the Districts
While the Paris Metro is extensive, navigating between certain districts (like moving from Montmartre to the Eiffel Tower) is often faster and more comfortable via a private taxi or chauffeur.
